How To Host A Zero Waste Party

We all love parties, but they can be a very difficult task for the hosts, and even more so when you want to be on the same page with the environment. A zero waste party needs thorough thinking and planning, much more than a party in which the waste isn't a priority for the host.

So, we decided to make your life a bit easier by doing some research and brainstorm more than usually to offer some environmentally friendly alternatives on how to throw a zero waste party.

We all know how important these parties can be for you, be it a birthday or just a casual party where you just want a good time with your friends and relatives. We put together some tips that will help the guests feel just as comfortable with your zero waste party as they would otherwise, no need for them to feel any pressure on the matter, since we know that not everyone is an avid environmentalist. So for their pleasure and your peace of mind, without any further introductions, here's a list with the best tips we could come up with for your zero waste party.

1.Have you ever heard of Seiza?!

That's the sitting pose in Japan, with some cushions or blankets you can make any floor a sitting place. That's not for you? Well you can always use your chairs and also borrow some from your neighbors.

2. Cutlery

As for cutlery, you can stock up plenty from a second-hand store and keep it in your storage room, this way you will have enough to use when a party is on the way. No need for one time use plastic cutlery, and neither for the one you have in your house. Mind that you can do the same for silverware, and not much space is needed to deposit them, a small cupboard should be enough. It's a cheap and efficient way, since you will be able to use them again and again as long as you don't lose them.

3. Drinks

Beer should not be to much of a problem, as you can always take the bottles back to the store and get a part of your money back. Or you can get a whole barrel from a brewery to use for your party. As for lemonade you can DIY a beverage jug which you can reuse at any time, or the easiest way, buy it from a second-hand store, though might be harder to find.

4. Straws

Straws you say? No problem, there are plenty alternatives to the usual plastic straws. Stock up on stainless steel or bamboo straws, the internet is filled with them, all waiting for you.

5. Paper Towels

Paper towels have a substitute as well, again a second-hand store could come in handy. You can go and buy cloth from there and then cut it in a napkin size patch, good to use for cleaning hands, dry dishes or clean spills.

6. Light

I suppose your party won't end once the sun goes down. For that solar lamps can be your best friend along with a small fire if you have the place. The solar lamps can easily charge during the day and keep you company all night long.

7. Food

In order to have a zero waste most essential part of the party - food, it is best to find dishes that don't really need cutlery. This way you won't even need to borrow or buy more than you have at home. Making bite size sandwiches or burritos would be a great alternative. For salads check out some salad boats, which can be eaten with hands.
