DAY 8 Zero Waste Challenge: Eat Seasonal
No Waste Land September 08, 2018 0
I know that we all love to have some strawberries all year round. How can we have a salad without tomatoes in the winter? It just won't feel like salad anymore. But the whole idea is to be aware of what fruits and vegetables grow each season, so that when the time comes we can try to get them from a farmers' market and enjoy them even more. Seasonal food is often more fresh and nutritious than food consumed out of season. Getting produce that grow in season will introduce you to a new world of taste and enchant your senses.
In order to help you out even more I have made a short list with some of the most common fruits and vegetables that grow in each one of the four seasons. The lists includes some vegetables that can be preserved easily, and can resist in your basement for a few good months, such as potatoes, apples or carrots. Also, you can choose to freeze any of them and have them at your disposal. The freshness won't be the same, but at least you know that they are bought from a trusted source.

- Summer: radishes, rucola, cucumber, beets, bell peppers, carrots, zucchini, garlic, corn, rhubarb, apricots, plums, cherries, blackberries, nectarines, strawberries, peaches, tomatoes, melon, lemon, limes.
