DAY 24 Zero Waste Challenge: Snacks

We all love snacks. And with zero waste journey we have discovered that we are more leaning towards healthier recipes and food options. I know the temptation to grab some snacks in the store when you are hungry. However, if you are well prepared you won't have that problem. Let us show how to always have some munchies on the go the healthy way.

S N A C K S

Nuts

Nuts are great to keep yourself filled for a longer period. I like to buy nuts in bulk and then put the mix together myself, with just a bit or dried cranberries. I feel like the store bought trail mix is filled with peanuts and raisins, which are inexpensive and not that tasty whatsoever.

Apple or banana with nut butter

I had this snack today and it filled me for a while. I sliced the apples and put in a container, as well as peanut butter in a different jar. It is simple and easy on the go, as well as a great for having it at home.

Berries

Berries are very nutritious when they are in season. This is a great snack if you have Farmer's Market in your area, as then it would be cheaper to get in bulk and eat within a week.

Stone Fruit

These are my favorite fruits, as they are juicy and full with flavor. Nectarines, apricots and peaches are some of the main fruits you can get for a great price in the stores.

Carrot Sticks with Hummus

Carrots are always an inexpensive treat, and very healthy. If you have a good blender, you can make your own hummus with simple ingredients - chickpeas, olive oil, lemon juice and some spices.

Popcorn

Popcorn is a very great treat, because it doesn't have much calories and it is very versatile. I suggest you check some recipes on Pinterest for the flavors to make it more tasteful.

Chia Seed Pudding

Chia pudding is one of our breakfast meals that we prep every Sunday. It is so easy to make it and a great sweet treat. All you need is to mix a half a cup of natural yoghurt without flavor. To this add a tablespoon of chia seeds. For sweetness add some honey and a mashed banana. Voila ! Leave it overnight and eat whenever you want a tasty treat.
