DAY 25 Zero Waste Challenge: Repair Something

Nowadays feels like everything you buy has a tendency to break after a few months of use. It is hard to get a quality product for a decent price. However, the best you can do is to try and repair it, instead of throwing it out to buy another part that will break again in less than a year! Seems like a never ending circle.

Today we want to talk about repairing clothes, shoes, electronics, or whatever needs a hand. In Copenhagen we have repair cafe, where you can bring anything that is broken and people will help you fix it. It is amazing!

The Repair Cafe movement was started in the Netherlands in 2009 to allow people to bring in their goods to be fixed by volunteers for free. There are now over 1200 Repair Cafes throughout the world.

Repair Cafes solve this problem by creating social community events where you can bring in your broken items to have fixed, free of change. And instead of a repair shop where you would still be dependent on someone else's skill set, Repair Cafes operate by having attendees fix their own items alongside the guidance of the skilled volunteers. It's one part maker movement, one part environmental awareness, and one part social gathering.

I am sure there are a lot of things that you can repair, and that you have been putting aside to get to it. It is your lucky day because today's challenge is to tackle that pile! We want to focus on repairing because it helps the items last much longer.

Challenge:

Find some clothing item, shoes, electronics and repair it. If you have something that is very broken and would like to upcycle, check Pinterest for some inspiration  :)
