DAY 27 Zero Waste Challenge: Palm Oil & Destroying Industries

It is hard to imagine that there is a connection between the cookies you get in the store and the animals suffering from deforestation. However the sad truth is that forests are destroyed at a rapid speed just to get this palm oil.

The industry is linked to major issues such as deforestation, habitat degradation, climate change, animal cruelty and indigenous rights abuses in the countries where it is produced, as the land and forests must be cleared for the development of the oil palm plantations.

What we want you to do is reconsider the items that you buy, See it as a way of voting and supporting the company every time you buy a product from them. I know that unfortunately palm oil is in many many products. And it is time consuming to make your own cookies at home, or how do you even make chips at home?

These are some of the most popular foods that contain palm oil:

1. Bread
2. Crisps
3. Margarine
4. Vegan Cheese
5. Soap
6. Pizza Bases
7. Instant Noodles
8. Shampoo
9. Chocolate
10. Ice cream

It is important for us consumers to know about the things we are passionate about. If it is food then research the industry and palm oil. If you are interested in fashion, check out articles about fast fashion and the impact on the nature. If you are into beauty, research some companies that are vegan and don't test on animals.

The way we spend our money is the way we contribute and build the world around us.

Challenge:

I challenge you to check the ingredients if you decide to buy in the store and see if it has palm oil. If you want you can also research more about the industry.
